Moon Valley
The adventure begins with a visit to Moon Valley, a surreal landscape of dramatic dunes, towering rock formations, and jagged salt crusts. As the sun sets, the valley transforms, with colors of pink, orange, and gold creating an unforgettable spectacle.
Next, gear up for an exhilarating biking tour to Garganta del Diablo, or “Devil’s Throat,” a striking natural gorge carved over millennia by volcanic forces. Pedal through dusty trails and rugged terrain as you make your way to this awe-inspiring chasm. Along the way, you’ll discover fascinating geological formations.
Departing from San Pedro in the morning, the drive will take you close to the Argentinean border to trek up the Toco Volcano. The ascent to the summit is technically straightforward, though the high altitude adds an exciting challenge to the hike. The reward comes after three hours, when the summit is reached and superb views of the surrounding volcanoes and mountain chains can be enjoyed. The immense salt pan of Salar de Atacama glows white far below.
