High potential for indigenous tourism in Chile

In search of new products, we met with local indigenous suppliers who provided insights into their culture and customs. 9% of the Chilean population, that is, about 1.5 million people, belongs to one of the country’s nine indigenous groups. Their traditions are gaining increased attention, including in the tourism sector.
In Santiago, for example, a city tour is offered in which the city’s story is told from the perspective of the locals who lived there prior to the Spanish conquest. The tour also boasts a tasting of typical dishes from the Mapuche culture. Also new are the tours in Chiloe, where travelers can learn about traditional medicine and handicrafts or ride the typical boats of the Huilliche culture.
