More flights to Puerto Natales from spring this year

As already reported in the June newsletter, Torres del Paine National Park in southern Chile is very popular for its diverse flora and fauna and a breathtaking panorama of mountains and lakes. Torres del Paine is located in the province of Última Esperanza and north of Puerto Natales.

The location of the park in this still untouched nature fascinates arriving tourists, but is not very easy to reach. For a long time, Latam was the only airline to fly to this region and offered flights during the summer months – three direct flights a week to Puerto Natales. As such, it has been common for travelers to fly into Punta Arenas and arrive to Puerto Natales and henceforth the national park via bus or rental car.

This is expected to change in spring. The conditions at the airport Teniente Julio Gallardo in Puerto Natales are being improved; notably, more fuel tanks are to be installed to ensure the operation of regular flights. Sky Airline has already confirmed that as of November they will fly twice a week between Santiago and Puerto Natales, and other airlines could follow. With at least two airlines flying regularly between the two cities, this would not only be an advantage for tourists but also a relief for locals to be able to travel more expeditely to the central zone of Chile.
