Andean Carnival “Con la Fuerza del Sol” in Arica

Carnival Fuerza Del Sol

Arica, known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” is a vibrant coastal gem on the Pacific Ocean, rich in attractions and cultural heritage. Towering above the city, the iconic 130-meter-high El Morro rock – central to Chile’s history during the Pacific War – provides a dramatic backdrop for northern Chile’s largest multicultural celebration during the summer months.

The Andean Carnival “Con la Fuerza del Sol” (Inti Ch’amampi) has been an annual highlight since 2002, celebrated over three days in January or February. This colorful festival attracts over 16,000 dancers and musicians from across Chile and beyond, making it one of South America’s most significant carnival events.
The festivities showcase the diverse cultural roots of the region, with performances by Andean dance troupes presenting traditional dances of the Altiplano, Afro-descendant communities, and the Arica and Parinacota regions.
