After little activity in the country’s ski centres in 2020 due to the pandemic, skiers and snow lovers can now rejoice.
Due to the successful vaccination campaign and after the lifting of the quarantine in the metropolitan region of Santiago, the opening of several ski resorts started under strict hygiene protocols, thus setting a sign of the reactivation of tourism in the country, at least already on a national level.
The first operating ski centres this season were Valle Nevado, the largest ski centre in South America, and El Colorado. Both are located about 40 to 50 kilometres from Santiago. Almost 3,000 tourists came to the reopening.
Visiting the ski resorts is only possible after prior registration via their website due to reduced capacity.
Other ski centres already open:
- Farellones (about 40 kilometres from Santiago)
- Nevados de Chillán (Mountain Resort & Thermal Spa)
- Corralco (in the Araucania region)
- Antillanca (98 kilometres from Osorno, within the Puyehue National Park)
Another ski centre in the central region, La Parva, is scheduled to open on July 5.
