San Pedro de Atacama to Rebuild Local Museum
The regional government of Antofagasta has recently approved a new project to reconstruct the Padre Le Paige Museum in San Pedro de Atacama. This museum, which houses more than 323,000 artefacts on the anthropology, culture, and history of the people of the Atacama Desert, is one of the most important museums in all of Chile. The new construction project will better-adapt the museum for the growing number of visitors to San Pedro. In addition to expanded space for the permanent and temporary exhibitions, the rebuilt museum will include research laboratories, academic meeting-rooms, and conservation facilities – with a total of 3.358 square meters of space. The date of the construction project’s start has not been announced, and we assume that during the upcoming high season the museum’s current operating space will be operate as normal. We will keep you updated.
