Tierra Atacama is located at about 2400 m altitude in San Pedro de Atacama and is one of the three boutique Tierra Hotels (the two others are located in Chiloé and Patagonia). What makes Tierra Atacama so special is its exclusive and modern architecture that adapts perfectly to the desert landscape. The all-inclusive hotel not only radiates warmth and cosiness through the use of natural brown tones, but it is also a perfect transition from the outside environment. The large windows in the lobby with a unique view of the Lincancabur volcano give guests a magnificent view of the nature surrounding this hotel in the middle of the desert. An authentic decoration with local handicrafts, such as llama figures made of volcanic stone by an artist from Toconao or hand-knotted coffee-coloured blankets from Atacama, complete the unique flair of Tierra Atacama. The spacious rooms are also decorated in natural colours and overlook the Andes and nearby volcanoes.
For those who want venture further into the desert, there are excursions offered daily by the hotel and guided by experienced tour guides, including hiking through the Moon Valley, cycling in the desert, riding through a desert gorge, and walking along the edge of the abyss of the “Valle de la Muerte” (Valley of Death) and then gliding down the dunes. Romantics will love the sunset picnic at the Salar de Atacama – Chile’s largest salt flat with over 3000 sq km and home to flamingos.
After an eventful day, the hotel’s own restaurant welcomes you with a menu that varies daily and deliciously prepared dishes. The spa also offers a feel-good atmosphere with an infinity pool, as well as the basket sun loungers and other relaxation spots in the hotel garden. Guests can warm themselves in the evening at the fireplaces on the outdoor terrace and watch the starry sky.
Families with children are also welcome in this hotel. Family rooms for up to six people, board games in the lounge and child-friendly excursions make the stay an unforgettable family experience. The luxury and lifestyle travel magazine “Condé Nast Traveler” recently reported on the Hotel Tierra Atacama in its June edition under the category “the world’s best family holidays 2019“.
Tierra Atacama is also eco-friendly, entirely free of plastic and a pioneer in South America in the production of solar power to meet the hotel’s daily energy needs. The outer walls of the hotel are traditional mud walls, “muros de barro” made of clay, water and straw that have a natural positive effect on the indoor climate, storing heat in winter and cooling the building in summer.
